As a blogger and a twitterholic (there I said it) I found Google Reader extremely useful, I just could not imagine life without it. Essentially, it entails an aggregational function that I found invaluable as I consume my RSS feeds:
- At my desktop
- On my iphone
- On one of my iPads
It might seem that my life is essentially ‘too’ mobile, if that makes sense. I need something to aggregate my RSS feeds so that they can be consumed by any device. The information also needs to flow back through the feed (like Google Reader does) so that the RSS feed can be updated with simple things like ‘read/unread’, much like the diagram below.
So far, I have not been able to find the right tool that ticks all the boxes. For example, I have found many feed readers, but each are tied to a specific device. So many of them are not really great alternatives to Google Reader, but they are certainly great tools.
So one reader can not update the ‘read’ count on the other device which will surely result in wasted effort and inefficiency. Further, I have found that not all applications have such a great set of added tools. I would write seperately about Reeder, but to me this tool just has it all.
Reeder App.
So I would like to be able to keep this app working, but need a new aggregator if I am largely to retain my feed habits unchanged. I’ll keep reviewing and I will be sure to post the comparisons, positives and negatives back on here. On the other hand, if you think you have already found the solution – please post it here in the comments section and see what your suggestion can do.

rss lacks the key social element – as this post does a great job of articulating – http://gigaom.com/2013/03/15/why-the-death-of-google-reader-doesnt-bother-me-that-much-social-news-has-won/
so now i’m playing with prismatic – too early to give a review (but i’m wondering if this is just the public front-end to NSA Prism!)
I’ve gone through and found Feedly seems to be doing the job well. Some great new features and its very readable. Almost so much that the experience distracts from the content, however, I’ll keep some for the update.
What I’m finding interesting is that a few companies are now coming forth with a ‘replacement’ for aggregating the RSS feeds. That is going to be interesting to watch as well.
Thanks for the link, that was a good page too…
